IF EVERY SECOND WAS A DOLLAR what would your bank balance be?

2 things I started doing to double my income in 3 months

There you go again scrolling through social media, deadlines piling and your career failing. Now you are getting frustrated at your phones battery life to hold on a little longer so you can spend hours glued to other people’s lives. Unknown to you is that your own time and life is wasting away. You have no idea how all this reckless living is cutting your code short. Overeating, over-stressing, over drinking, your way out. If every second was a dollar, what would your bank balance be? Would you use it differently to cash in on every second? Could the long trips to the cafeteria to sit and chat unnecessarily still be an option? I will stop asking questions, I see you are already exhausted.

Late night television, tiring yourself more, just to wake up the next morning again. What’s the point? Entertainment should be refreshing. A time set aside to unwind, yet now you’re all wound up.

This is what happens when you misuse time, you have to make a choice and take responsibility of the outcome, especially when the result is not in your favor. Where you are in life right now has nothing to do with your background, circumstances, height or location. It has a lot to do with how you spend your time trying to change it or stay the same way.

Every second will simply count whether or not you choose to step up and use your time wisely. Start keeping a record of what, who and when you allow to so freely give up your time to.

In 3 months I was able to completely change my life and move from a tiny pay check to double that slip through simple lifestyle changes. After watching, learning and reading extensively the habits of some of the greatest captains of industries in our time I resolved to the following 2 simple changes.

EARLY TO BED, EARLY TO RISE MAKES A MAN HEALTHY AND WEALTHY

The words of Benjamin Franklin in Poor Richard’s Almanack. The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, Third Edition, Brings emphasis to one of the greatest and ancient secrets of success “Your Morning Routine”. Do you not find it tragic that a man who ignores the principal of health, overworking himself till he burns out, could end up very unhealthy? Yes, he can attain a lot of wealth but what good is it when later he fails to enjoy it because his body is all worn out. Instead of finally getting to discover the world, dine and wine to good music all the funds are redirected to funding hospital bills. Similar to this is a man who ignores the importance of a strong work ethic and procrastinates so much that at the end of his days he is an old man struggling in a 9/5 job because when he still had the time and energy he chose not to.

The point here is you have to strike a balance and guard your time wisely. Early risers have been discovered to be more tenacious, conscientious and cooperative. These are key character traits of great leaders which tends to make them more likable and disciplined. After this life-changing discovery, I set my alarm clock to 4 AM (of course I snoozed it a lot the first few weeks) What’s hilarious was I had no idea what I should do at 4 am, it was just too early to even understand what and why these great leaders and CEOs wake up at 4. Next, I made a list of things I would want to achieve during the day, stuff like exercise, finally respond to all those emails, read my devotional and meditate. Wow!! Suddenly it all fell in place, the next time I resisted snoozing my clock, I was up, got my work out done, responded to a lot of emails early in the morning (just the feeling of someone walking into their office to see your email first thing) sets you apart and gets you quick responses whilst people are still pumped up about their day.

Going to bed early and getting up early may have been the reason I finally managed to brave opening my own company, finally getting started on the book I have always wanted to write and got me to quit my job that did not seemed to catch up with my new speed anymore. Accounting for my time has been the best habit I have invested in, I get to have a front seat in my life’s show in fact I get to run it! My way!!

SET AN IMPOSSIBLE GOAL AND GET MAD ABOUT IT

These days everybody is crazy about goals and a lot of them are temporary look good social media goals. A goal is an object of a person’s ambition or efforts, when a person achieves a goal it brings a lot of self-fulfillment. But what if the goal is impossible, or the dream is too big it’s scary? Well then in that case you have to get mad about it. Literally! Have you ever come across a mad man? Hahaha you think a lot of things are impossible until you see a mad man do them. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying go out there and be reckless. I am simply saying you could learn a thing or two from a mad man.

Firstly a mad man does not care if somebody is watching or not, they don’t need an audience to start. They simply do whatever it is they feel like doing. We are so caught up in thinking about what people say and what people will think of us when we try to achieve the impossible, that we begin to limit ourselves. I learnt that in order for you to achieve the impossible you have to be willing to do the impossible. Most importantly to note, is that, the impossible will seem impossible, so before it becomes possible accept the fact that you might fail whilst trying. Bruce Barton acknowledged this when he said “Action and reaction, ebb and flow, trial and error, change – this is the rhythm of living. Out of our over-confidence, fear, out of our fear, vision, clearer vision, fresh hope. And out of hope, progress”

By observing mad people’s characters I found fascinating things about their mannerisms.  I have seen a mad man focused on doing something, be it trying to lift a building or make all the pots and pans fly, in trying to do this it seems as if they develop superhuman durability. Days upon days, weeks, months and even years will go by, and you will find him sleeping next to that building he still believes one day he will lift. The determination and tenacity of a mad man is totally mind blowing. Various men and women have broken records on lifting impossible object and so there is no reason to believe it cannot be done. Various people have started their own ventures, so I thought, there is no reason I cannot become a successful entrepreneur. I set an impossible goal for myself and lined up impossible tasks I had to accomplish that put me in complicated and impossible circumstances but I was mad about my goal and I would days upon days, weeks, months and years would work hard until I succeeded. In 3 months of undeterred determination I started to see results and in the end I get to live the impossible.
